1021 3rd ST DAYTON OH
The rich history of the Neoclassical Revival building make it a focal point in the Wright-Dunbar Business Village. The Midget Theater building was erected in 1912 to house a theater & was quite impressive for its time w/a Wulitzer orchestra piano & comfortable opera-chair seating for 300. The building name arose from the attraction of one of its first managers, Sherman Potterf, a man of small stature. It features elaborate stone cornices & classical finishing, transomed second-story windows, raised brick detailing & contains the original two front entrances. The Wright-Dunbar Business Village is an area situated west of downtown Dayton, & is where Wilber & Orville Wright designed the world's first powered airplane, & where Paul Lawrence Dunbar penned his world-renown poetry. The area is on the National Register of Historic Places & is an official Main St Program through the National Trust for Historic Preservation & is home to the highly rated Dayton Aviation Heritage Historical Park.
