Explore Anderson Township

Anderson Township was formed out of Virginia Military District in the late 1700’s. It was named after Richard Clough Anderson, chief surveyor for the area. Bounded by the Ohio and Little Miami Rivers, it was the site of Flinn’s Ford, the southernmost crossing of the Little Miami. The township remained mostly undeveloped until the suburbanization that followed World War II.

This family-oriented suburb boasts numerous parks and nature preserves. Its parks include amenities for hiking, biking, and jogging, ball fields, including two full-sized turf fields, picnic areas, and playgrounds. Home to several golf courses, including five public courses, and three private swim clubs, Anderson Township has entertainment options for everyone.

In the southern part of the township, situated along the Ohio River, are some of the Greater Cincinnati Area’s most popular entertainment destinations. Coney Island amusement park has rides, live shows, and Sunlite Pool, the nation’s largest filtered pool. Riverbend Music Center, located right next to Coney Island, is an outdoor music amphitheater that hosts concerts for national acts six months out of the year. Belterra Park, formerly River Downs, features casino games and horse racing.

Residents have a multitude of shopping options including Eastgate Mall, and the Anderson Towne Center. Dozens of local and national brand stores and restaurants are located in the primary retail district along Beechmont Avenue. Other regional shopping, such as Newport on the Levee and Rookwood Commons are within a twenty-minute drive.

The township is well-known for its preservation of green spaces, as well as its dedication to growing its commercial and residential areas. Anderson Township is considered one of the premier suburb of Cincinnati.
